About Krombacher in Ethiopia
Krombacher is one of Germany’s leading independent breweries – family-owned since 1803, brewed in the same Sauerland village for more than two centuries and exported to over 40 countries. In 2026 Krombacher is launching a Phase 1 partner program for Ethiopia, selecting exclusive trade partners in Addis Ababa, the Northern Historic Route and the Rift Valley & South, and for national hospitality, hotels and conferences.
Ethiopia is one of Africa’s largest beer markets, with around 12 million hectolitres per year – almost entirely brewed locally, with imports accounting for only around 2 percent. That makes the import segment a small but distinctive premium niche, driven by international hotels, diplomatic and conference business in Addis Ababa and a growing tourism sector. Krombacher brings the German Reinheitsgebot of 1516 and its own protected water source, Felsquellwasser®, to this category.
