Hops changed beer for better
Destined for greatness. Hops changed beer for the better.
A hop plant can grow to a height of up to seven metres. The herbaceous climbing plant’s urge for topping everything has also proved itself in beer. It took some time before the special effects of hops on beer were discovered and made their appearance as an essential constituent of the formula in the German purity law of 1516.
The fine-tart character, the consistency of the foam and the improved shelf life were the obvious changes accomplished by adding hops to the beer.
It is widely accepted that the soothing effect of beer is attributed to the inclusion of hops. It is the introduction of this plant to the brewing process that turned beer into a success story.
Today, in Krombach we use the finest “Siegel” hops from Hallertau, which provide all the benefits our ancestors treasured. Our master brewers are, naturally, hop experts and pay strict attention to the first-class quality of the hop from delivery and throughout the process, guaranteeing the quality of our beer.
